She was one of three sisters who would go on to have successful careers in the booming fashion magazine industry of the late 19th century. These prints are what are known as "Fashion Plates" because they were engraved on plates of steel. Today we still use the expression - "she's a real fashion plate" - used to describe a fashion conscious woman. The Steel Plate technique was new at the beginning of the 19th Century. Steel engraving allowed publishers to print many copies of each image - making the business of printing illustrated magazines possible. Steel plate engravings were printed in black ink. We would like to welcome you back for a new year and hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer! For those families new to our school, we are glad you are part of our Catholic community and look forward to getting to know you better.  Our teachers, custodial staff and administration have eagerly been awaiting your arrival and are excited for the new school year to begin!

We had our shirt-waist sewing pattern, and it is part of our 1893 dress which we just planned for our big halloween night. Maybe, this blouse has puff sleeves, and a little bit different. This is from a 1893-94 catalog in a magazine, and copied from a original sewing pattern company to help people sew. It is simpler to mens ties, and it was very prety for our costumes one day.

Plate 36. June 1865 .  Fig. a.  Morning costume for a watering-place. Dress of white alpaca gored a L’Imperatrice, and trimmed with rose velvet ribbon and goat-hair tassels. The hair is a la Pompadour, with a coiffure of black silk net, with large beads and a velvet coronet.  Fig. b . Afternoon dress for a young lady, or blue grenadine, cross-barred and figured with black. A waved trimming of pale blue silk with black lace, chenille tassels, and gimp on skirt and bertha. The low corsage is pointed, showing a chemisette of thin muslin puffs and Valenciennes inserting. The bertha crosses in front, and ties in back with long ends.  Fig. c .
