What makes roller coasters pneumantic and hydraulic?

For hydraulic systems, a sled connects to a roller coaster train, The motor connects uses incompressible hydraulic force. This sled releases to the train, slows down, and heads back, to its starting position. As the hydraulic motor functions, the cable winds around a drum, which pulls the sled. The motor uses incompressible hydraulic fluid in one compartment as it compresses nitrogen gas in another. The power generated throughout this process goes to the cable drum to wind the sled's cable. Hydraulic options when they want faster and smoother acceleration, especially compared to an electromagnetic system. And the launch system as well. A pneumatic system functions similarly to a hydraulic one. The primary difference between the two is that pneumatic launch systems replace nitrogen gas and hydraulic fluid with air.

130th anniversary article: Spoonflower fabrics by Jennifer Rosbrugh

In a world with thousands of fabrics in various prints and designs and colors, sometimes you just don’t find what you’re looking for. Enter  Spoonflower  (in 2008) to allow us to order fabric in custom prints. Whoot!  The concept is fabulous! However, as the company was starting to grow many of us sew-ers were curious as to the quality of the textiles as well as the printing. In 2019 I finally had the opportunity to test their service.  Several years ago when casually exploring their available I stumbled upon prints patterned after and influenced by Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion attraction. Oh yes!! Then Disney pulled their weight and my wished-for, famous mansion wallpaper print was removed from the site…. there went my idea of making a full bustle dress in the print. But then in 2019 one theme for  Costume College  was “Tea at the Haunted Manor”, which was going to be based on our beloved Disney ride. Now I had a “real” reason to make something i...

On The Ship Going To France & England In The 1860s.

Whoa, I have seen a quote from Godey's Lady's Book of July of 1861, it says: "Godey's is chase in style, beautiful in sentiment, noble in thought, and well calculated to call out all the ennobling virtues of the human heart. No cottage no palace, no home, however or magnificent is furnished without the Lady's Book." But I want to live in the cottage in Ireland I guess. Maybe, I wanted to see beautiful palaces and castles, when I arrived in the city of London, we have cross River Thames: a river in England.  And we have seen lots of beautiful streets alongside here. We had to bring that diary from Canada to England. Olivia Dicks & I work on the sails on the ship when the wind comes through. It was the beginning of 1865, and my family has servants to cook and care for my children. So, on the ship away to England, Olivia Dicks teaches me writing, arithmetic, Latin, geography, drawing, music, and dancing. "I decided to go to England to move to England,...

On The Ship Going To France & England In the 1850s.

When I go to London, I have to go on a boat, to see my grandparents. I dance along on the top deck of the ship. And I am going to see the views of the ocean. So, my cousin decided to live to see what cities in Europe feels like. When I got on the ship, I have seen people dancing my favorite polka, and playing instruments, but not the piano. When I have got to London, I have met the queen to give me tea to drink for my break. I am an explorer of the whole country. "Ahoy there!" said the captain. I have said to him, "Ahoy there mate" I said. But Michaela Bermingham was sleeping on the ship, and she comes to visit me. It was on the 30th of August, and I have to sleep and get ready to have breakfast on the deck. What I have for breakfast is from Turkey: cheese and fruit. After breakfast, I have worn my walking costume to meet the captain. "Maybe, we can go see history of what?" said Michaela Bermingham. I said "Olivia Dicks is coming to visit me today to...

It was originally from a European magazine, and its second appeared in the June 1865 of Godey's Magazine. So she wears it to town and for parties. When she wanted to go get magazines from this time period, she wanted to get the Godey magazines. She went on a boat to Europe, to find her favorite magazines like "La Mode Illustree," and others. Article Of The Day: Godey’s Lady’s Book and Magazine, Vol. 64, June 1862 by From Slave Mothers & Southern Belles to Radical Reformers & Lost Cause Ladies

Godey’s Lady’s Book and Magazine, Vol. 64, June 1862. This engraved cover of Godey’s Lady’s Book contains oval vignettes of women and children occupied in a variety of outdoor pursuits. The four romanticized scenes, framed by a harvest of vegetables, fruits, and flowers, demonstrate appropriate gender roles for American women of the period. Each scene depicts two modestly dressed women wearing floor length dresses with full sleeves and skirts that reveal only their faces and hands. Their long hair—worn pulled back from the face or covered by a hat or bonnet—exemplifies a tasteful modesty and their posture exhibits calm nobility. Three of the scenes include young children, indicating a woman’s role as mother and educator. In the fourth, a young man reaches down from a ladder to deliver an apple into a waiting apron. Two of the children in other pictures make similar gestures; one offers a cup of fresh water dipped from a stream and the other an apron full of gathered flowers. Th...

Artknits Thornhill Videos: The Beauty Of Victorian Women

Short video about the work of Anais Toudouse one of the most talented artists of the golden age of French Fashion Illustration. Created by Victorian Beauties on Zazzle. Visit: http://www.zazzle.com/victorianbeauti... Anais Toudouse was born in 1822 into a family of artists. She was one of three sisters who would go on to have successful careers in the booming fashion magazine industry of the late 19th century. These prints are what are known as "Fashion Plates" because they were engraved on plates of steel. Today we still use the expression - "she's a real fashion plate" - used to describe a fashion conscious woman. The Steel Plate technique was new at the beginning of the 19th Century. Steel engraving allowed publishers to print many copies of each image - making the business of printing illustrated magazines possible. Steel plate engravings were printed in black ink. Color printing did not yet exist. Each plate had to be colored by hand with ...
