Chapter 3 in Ms. Rozano's fashion history: The 1860s dress and style

When she arrived in the 1860s, she had saw a pretty fair maidian who saw fashions for men. So, she wanted Ms. Rozano to wear a pretty 1860s dress with a cloak on it. It was originally from a European magazine, and its second appeared in the June 1865 of Godey's Magazine. So she wears it to town and for parties. When she wanted to go get magazines from this time period, she wanted to get the Godey magazines. She went on a boat to Europe, to find her favorite magazines like "La Mode Illustree," and others. A fashion magazine: Circa: 1865

Chapter 2 of Ms. Rozano's fashion history: 1850s dresses and style

When she got home, she had a cup of coffee from Tim Hortons, and 1 cheeseburger from Mcdonalds. She eats all of her food, and she started sewing with truly victorian sewing patterns to sew her dress. She had a Singer sewing machine from the 1860s, and she used the method from historical elements. When she got to her bedroom, she had seen a big-time machine from the story "The Time Machine" from 1895. when she got on, she wanted to set to "January 1, 1850." When she goes back in time, she had seen a different type of style back in the 1800s. Fashion magazines were different back then, and they were printed by printing presses. But in the late 1850s, girls had to wear poofy hoops until 1856-1866. "That was 10 years!" Ms. Rozano said to the historian.

Chapter 1 of Ms. Rozano's Fashion History: the beginning of the story

We are creating a novel that is set in the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library in the University Of Toronto to find good books about fashion to read for her. When she goes there, she saw a Godey's Lady's Book from 1865, but the fashion is not the same as today. And, a lot for ladies magazines on the shelves. When she took out a book, she does not know the trends of the time period. She knows about the fashions from the 1800s-1840s, but she does not know the fashions from the 1850s to the 1950s, that is a hundred years, is it? When she goes to the lobby, she had found a time machine. The time machine is just like the original storybook called "The Time Machine." It was written in 1895. When she goes on the time machine, she wants to go back to the 1850s. So she chose the date: "January 1st, 1850." And she saw people dressing so differently right now in the olden days. But, the library has a magazine called "Godey's Lady's Book 1851." First sh

A Story About Ms. Rozano Going Back In The Past: The Novel

We are so exited to create novels about time travelling, like the story of the Time Machine back in 1895. But, we are creating a novel about researching the past of Ms. Rozano riding a big time machine back into 1865. This story is about Ms. Rozano visiting a part back then that they received our “Lady’s Book 1865,” which is published by Louise Godey and Sarah Hale. Ms. Rozano wants to learn about the fashion in the past by using a time machine in the “Time Travellers Café to figure out what fashions are look like from the 1850s to the 1950s. When she comes back, she opened a book from our special collections to see how she figure out, when that is from that time period.

We celebrate 155 years of reasearching fashions in the Artknits special collections, and teaching about fashion history. Back in 1865, Louis A. Godey made a print from other magazines with our popular fashion print. In 1997, people made it for colouring books. A civil war navy, the second bride, and a kid that was born in Febuary of 1864. In 1998, they take 6 fashion prints to a book called "80 Godey's Full-Colored Fashion Plates." In 2005, a chinese author made a book called "Godey's Fashions Coloring Book", to colour historical fashions. From 2008-2016, a book from the "American Civil War Era Fashion Plates From Godey's Lady's Book," which they put more fashion plate, but not more back in the 1998 one.  Celebrate 155 years: 1865-2020!

Article Of The Day: Godey’s Lady’s Book and Magazine, Vol. 64, June 1862 by From Slave Mothers & Southern Belles to Radical Reformers & Lost Cause Ladies

Godey’s Lady’s Book and Magazine, Vol. 64, June 1862. This engraved cover of Godey’s Lady’s Book contains oval vignettes of women and children occupied in a variety of outdoor pursuits. The four romanticized scenes, framed by a harvest of vegetables, fruits, and flowers, demonstrate appropriate gender roles for American women of the period. Each scene depicts two modestly dressed women wearing floor length dresses with full sleeves and skirts that reveal only their faces and hands. Their long hair—worn pulled back from the face or covered by a hat or bonnet—exemplifies a tasteful modesty and their posture exhibits calm nobility. Three of the scenes include young children, indicating a woman’s role as mother and educator. In the fourth, a young man reaches down from a ladder to deliver an apple into a waiting apron. Two of the children in other pictures make similar gestures; one offers a cup of fresh water dipped from a stream and the other an apron full of gathered flowers. Th

When it was first published?  It was a American magazine that was published in the state of Pennsylvania from 1830-1898. This magazine was published by Louis A. Godey in Phildephia. In 1879, the magazine has started changing editors. 130th anniversary article: Trend Setting for the Women of its Time and the exploration into Godey’s Ladey’s Fashion Plates by Colby College press

Imagine yourself flipping through the pages of Vogue or Elle Magazine. What jumps out at you? What do you remember most about your probably ten minutes with the piece of work. My guess is the photographs. These photographs are not really photographs. They are autistically constructed editorial art pieces. The beginnings of the Vogue Editorials can be rooted in the illustrations in Godey’s magazine. These illustrations within Godey’s magazine are called fashion plates. Louis A. Godey, a Philadelphia publisher and the owner of Godey’s Lady’s Book was insistent on the inclusion of fashion plates in the magazine. He faced opposition from the editor, Hale, however he override her. These fashion plates allow for the women of the mid 19th century to understand the trends in fashion. The people depicted in these fashion plates are models or mannequins displaying the clothes. Each month ladies were granted a new issue which included the monthly fashion plates hand-colored by the group God

Mint Julep: An 1860s Favorite

Try one of these delightful classic cocktail recipes from a popular 1860s bartenders guide. The mint julep, a traditionally American beverage made most popular in the Southern states, is symbolic of Southern hospitality and gentility. This potent drink was fondly remembered in British naval officer Captain Frederick Marryat’s travel diary of his tour of America. As a mint julep connoisseur, he apprised, “I must descant a little upon the mint julep, as it is, with the thermometer at 100 degrees, one of the most delightful and insinuating potations that ever was invented, and may be drank with equal satisfaction when the thermometer is as low as 70 degrees (1839).” Heed Captain Marryat’s advice and beat the summer heat by stirring up one of these delightful craft cocktails using original Civil War era recipes. As Jerry Thomas, author of the 1862  How to Mix Drinks, or The Bon-Vivant’s Companion , said; “they are, in fact, like the American ladies, irresistible.” These classic drink
